Commissions

When to consider a commission: Do you have a favourite place in mind that you’d like to see in a painting? What about an existing painting of mine that moves you, maybe you’d like a different size or shape for a special place in your home? Or a painting that is no longer available? Or a giclee you like, but prefer an original?

I love commissions. I find them very special to work on. I think about the unique things you have mentioned you like while I am painting. It is a fun way for me to share my style and message, and spurs me to try some things a little different sometimes, and I like to do it. Normally I prefer to work from my own references, visiting the site if it is your special place…but I can also refer to your photos.

The value is the same as any original, no extra. I don’t normally ask for a deposit. It will be unique and original in itself. Give me a call or email me. Some examples:

Recent Commissions

Afternoon at the Lake | 24 x 30

Afternoon at the Lake. The winning bidder at the Lake Clear Conservancy Auction commissioned the view out from their cottage. I love this one and so does the new owner.

Pond Colours | 12 x 24

Pond Colours. The original was sold, and I was able to return to the same location to paint this commission en plein air.

Sec Lake Shore | 9 x 12

Sec Lake Shore. The client saw this image in 2014 and it stayed in her mind for seven years until she asked about it. It was sold. I went back to paint this one just for her.

The Wild Madawaska at the Palmer Rapids | 24 x 30

The Wild Madawaska at the Palmer Rapids. A special collector knew just what they wanted and I enjoyed doing another large canvas of this, a favourite place on the Madawaska River.

Meet Me Here | 24 x 36

Meet Me Here. After seeing the giclee of this painting, the client asked for a larger oil. I thoroughly enjoyed it, including giving more attention to the rocky foreground.

Black Water, Red Maple: The first painting was created and sold. A commissioned piece was done later.
Maple in the Wind was a studio study following a trip to Grand Lake. Maple in the Wind II was commissioned very shortly after the first one sold.

Some More Favourite Commissions

Souvenirs D'enfance 1944 - Loved doing this one, and hearing the memories added to it.
Walk With Me - Commissioned as a gift for a special couple.
Picacho Peak, Arizona - for this one I happily painted an onsite sketch before completing the larger commission.
AY Jackson in the Teshierpi Mountains, NWT - A collector requested this conceptual piece, I was delighted to reference my Dad's photo of Jackson and a Jackson canvas.
Onaping River - I had painted the falls before, and for reference combined that panting with the client's many photos from various vantages.
